I first heard of Islay Dog Rescue when they organised a raffle to help with funds. I bought and won a prize, offered to collect to save postage. So when they advertised for a fundraiser, I applied.
I had just retired and due to health issues I couldn't walk dogs so this is the next best thing. I met with Lorraine and I my exact words were " I didn't want it to become a full time job" How silly was that statement! Within three months I didn't have enough hours in the week to fit everything in. I said yes to everything that was offered to Islay, it was either used at the rescue, sold on one of the many monthly auctions that have happened over time or used for a raffle prize.
My husband started to help me out we had great fun meeting some of the supporters of the rescue when picking up or dropping off items. In fact we have made some good friends along the way. The extra money sometimes goes towards the large vet bills, but more often than not pays towards items used to make jobs around the rescue easier. Since moving from Ayrshire I'm still fundraising, but also I'm helping with the admin side of the rescue.
It is great to see the dogs that come to Islay progress and then settle into their new forever homes and think my small part helped in making that happen.
