I first heard about Islay dog rescue while I was looking for a dog rescue to start volunteering as I love dogs and I don’t have any of my own.
I started volunteering on Christmas Day 2022, Islay had put up a post looking for new volunteers to cover Christmas Day so me and my partner Jade decided it would be a lovely way to spend Christmas Day and I’ve volunteered almost every Sunday since then.
I became a senior in March of this year
My main duties are kennel cleaning, feeding, volunteer inductions and making sure all the dogs needs are met.
My favourite thing to do in Islay is just spend time with the dogs. Each dog likes to interact with people in their own way and I enjoy finding that and learning as much about each individual dog as I can so I can give them the best possible time here at Islay.
The main thing i get from Islay is spending time with dogs and knowing I’m helping to improve the dog’s life’s.
A special dog to me is a very hard question to answer as I’ve had so many dogs here I have adored but if I was to choose one it would have to be Willow the German shepherd. She was the first dog I walked here and initially she was very withdrawn and standoffish with me, but as I got to know her and she got to know me she relaxed and showed me just how much of a playful big baby she really was.
